The 2021 Indiana General Assembly in Review

After a unique and historic 16-week legislative session, the Indiana General Assembly recessed with the passage of its bipartisan $37.4 billion two-year state budget. Between the House and Senate chambers, 1,011 bills were introduced this session. When the General Assembly recessed, it passed a total of 220 bills – a 22% pass rate of introduced bills. The temporary pause – a departure from adjournments “Sine Die” – is the result of the General Assembly’s plan to resume later this year to act on the reapportionment of congressional and legislative districts.

New Washington, DC Office & Preeminent Public Affairs Group Fuel Taft Law’s Continued Expansion

With its 135-year legacy rooted in the historic Taft family that gave the country a U.S. President, Senator, and Supreme Court Chief Justice, together with other U.S. Senators and top-level U.S. Government officials, Taft Law is substantially expanding its existing group of government relations professionals in Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois by establishing a new bipartisan and diverse federal and state Public Affairs Strategies Group (PASG) in the nation’s capital and its Midwestern markets.

Taft’s Public Affairs Strategies Group and DC Office Featured in The National Law Journal

Taft’s announcement on its new bipartisan and diverse federal and state Public Affairs Strategies Group (PASG) and the opening of a Washington, DC office was featured in The National Law Journal on Feb. 22. The article “More Midwest-Born Big Law Firms Establishing Foothold in DC” discusses Taft’s PASG which is comprised of several accomplished and highly acclaimed attorneys and advocates who recently joined the firm. The group primarily operates out of the firm’s Indianapolis and newly established Washington, DC office but intends to expand its presence and reach throughout Taft’s other Midwestern offices.

Taft Returns to Washington

The law firm Taft Stettinius & Hollister has deep ties to Washington. Former Senate Majority Leader Robert Taft (R-Ohio) once practiced law at the firm. So did his son, former Sen. Robert Taft Jr. (R-Ohio), who headed the firm’s Washington office after he lost reelection in 1976. Now the law firm has reopened its Washington office decades after it shuttered, and it's building out a lobbying practice, Taft Advisors, that will operate alongside the legal one.
